CHILDLINE 1098 is an emergency phone number which is 24/7 available and free for children in need for aid, care and protection. CHILDLINE India Foundation (CIF) is a service of the Ministry of Women and Child Development. CIF is a non-government organization (NGO) working as nodal organization in India that operates a telephone helpline called Childline. It was India's first nationwide 24-hour, toll free, phone outreach service for children in distress.

PRACHODANA started the cooperation with CHILDLINE in Hassan with the support of the CIF, Chennai in September 2012.  The project is supported by the Central Women and Child Welfare Department of the Hassan District.

Short History

CHILDLINE first started as a field action project of the Department of Family and Child Welfare, Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) Mumbai, in June 1996. It was founded by Ms. Jeroo Billimoria, then a professor at TISS. First she provided a listening ear to children in need at railway stations in Mumbai .  Because of more and more incoming calls of children she noticed that she could not respond to any child in need. Thats why she formed the CIF in 1999.

ChildLine and Prachodana

In September 2012, PRACHODANA organization started this project in Hassan. Since then we provide good service for needy Children. CHILDLINE Hassan recieves phone calls from the public. Then we intervene in all the cases  and rescue the children based on the need. Later we do follow-up calls for all former children. Our project has a team of nine staff.

Our major services are: attending phone calls, outreach activity, rescueing and open house presentations.

In addition to this we conduct a stall program like on the Jatra festival where more people assemble. We rescue victims and introduce them to the Child Welfare Comitee. Furthermore we stop child marriage if there is a pre-marriage information. If it is post marriage, we have the support of Government Departments which we initiate to do a First Information Report (FIR).
